Wow.  Just wow.  Purchasing this book, I didn't expect to get scared- I expected some campy, silly 1980s fun.  But it delivered on so much more than it even had initially promised- this book shook me up.  Mind you, this book CAN be campy, and this book CAN at times be silly and fun... however, it also serves as an open invitation to allow your heart to be touched, and your mind to be pulled in so many different directions that at one point you won't even be sure what the hell is going on anymore.

The scariest part of this book isn't the horror that Abby's possessed friend Gretchen delivers at the hands of the demon taking over her (although there is plenty of terror in this alone,) but it is the descriptions of friendships, of rejection, of sweet times turned sour, and of how far love can truly go that will send shivers down your spine and force you to think about what truly means the most to you.  Not only did I enjoy everything in this book, and not only did it's quick pace and constant twists keep me interested- but while reading this I learned A LOT about demons and about deliverances and about the unexplored components of demonic possession.  This book not only thoroughly entertained me, it taught me things, which wasn't exactly what I expected when I picked it up.

This book represents a battle of wills.  It goes far beyond mundane adolescent struggles, and transcends the boundaries of what constitutes "typical" horror layouts.  I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to have their emotions played on and their mind expanded.  Oh and if you're looking to get scared- you won't be disappointed there either.

Five bats- given it is equal parts fun and phenomenal, surprising and traditional, and just an overall well written and carefully crafted story.  I would say the writer is an especially great one, considering how he keeps things interesting since page one and will not hover over the most mundane details.

I would highly recommend this title.
