I was genuinely shocked at how much I loved this book.  There were plots within plots within plots, each chapter uncovering more and more about our bizarre cast of characters and the situation they’ve created for themselves.

Some stories are big on the shock factor, but if you’re an avid reader of horror, they will not be anything near impossible to handle.  If you are going to read this book, I would advise to walk into it leaving behind your perception of humanity.  The modern day world.  Daily comforts.  This tale twists what you think you know into shards- and introduces you to this strange, out of the box scenario that may never come to pass in our “real world.”  (We can only hope it wouldn’t.)

That said, I understand that “Haunted” will not be everyone’s cup of tea.  But oh… it certainly was mine. This is, in my opinion, one of the most magnetic and original works of horror I’ve ever read.  I was looking to escape the mundanity and anxiety of everyday life, and I certainly got the job done.  I cannot say enough positive things about this book’s commitment to both philosophic thought and well played shocks and twists.

I encourage you to give this a try and read it for yourself.  I went into it expecting to misunderstand it, but was beyond pleasantly surprised.

This stands as a prime example to me as to why I never fully listen to the opinions of others and always prefer to experience the story for myself.  This is a polarizing book.  Some find it senseless… while others, like me, relish in this kind of creativity and obscurity.
