Michael Morrow is nineteen years old, yet he knows extraordinarily little of the world outside of his “home” and his “family.”  This is because his uniquely cruel parents lock their children away in their farm house- set in hopeless and desolate West Virginia.  The Morrows have some unconventional dinner habits, as well.  Rather than feasting on livestock, they prefer to feast on the remains of whichever hitchhiker they manage to catch. These hitchhikers all happen to be female. Michael, of course, is forced to partake in this twisted ritual.... but in reality, he is nothing like his family.  It is the last thing he wants to do.  What he really yearns for is a new life and a new beginning.

I was captivating by the description alone- and that in itself doesn't do this book justice.  Wow.  This is pure, Earth shattering, rural horror.  This is exactly the book that I want to read.

You will be completely immersed in the Morrow's messed up family dynamic from page one, and this book doesn't wait to let you in on the blood curdling terrors that plague their farmhouse.

There is interesting material on every page, and Ania Ahlborn doesn't wait to fling you headfirst into the plot.  Sometimes, before you even have the opportunity to digest what you have just read, another shocking truth is revealed, and as you begin to understand more and more about the Morrows, your emotions will be played with and your sympathy will increase.  (As well as your dread.)

This book is truly an experience.  It is one I didn't want to leave behind, despite the emotional rollercoaster that it put me through.  When you read this, you WILL feel like you are walking (or running) alongside Michael.  You will leave your home and be faced with the darkness of the West Virginia backwoods.  But when the ending does reach it's peak, you will not want to leave- not because you've grown comfortable in the Morrows's house, but because it is so rare to find a book that is THIS good.

I would give this novel 5/5 bats without a second thought.  The character development is fantastic, the scenery is amazing, and the surprises keep coming up until the final page.  If you want to read a book that will truly horrify you- look no further.

Spooky Score 5/5 Bats
