Review by Barby

As I write this, it is just after midnight.  I chose a novella for today because my allergies were brutal on me and I wanted something somewhat quick.  Naturally, I thought, “oh well I don’t scare easy so of course sleeping won’t be a problem….” WRONG.  Kealan damn well terrified me with this one.  I have a blanket over me as we speak and I am half convinced it is evil and full of malice reserved especially for me.  YIKES.

Anyways, Steve, our protagonist, paints a horrifically crestfallen picture of loss and of grief and the pinnacles of human suffering.  Really.  This book is not only chilling, but it is enormously sad.  I spent a good deal of the day crying and this read certainly had much to do with it.  The situation involving Steve, his wife Lexi, and his baby Robin is so bleak and so tragic.  It is truly difficult to stomach the events.

There is no comfort in reading “Blanky.”  There is no “lightening” of the mood.  This canvas is black.  You must understand that going into this one.  You must be prepared for that.  I know that sounds a bit overdramatic, but what I’m saying is, if you’re already feeling a bit extra sensitive today; this might not be the best immediate choice.  It is HEAVY. That being said, it is damn amazing.  Not only is the writing style absolutely gorgeous, but like I said… it scared me so bad I’m not sleeping for a while, now.  And I have work early in the morning.  Thanks, Kealan!

He did a phenomenal job on this one, really.  If you’re ready for a real gut wrenching tale designed to grip your attention and your heart, pick up “Blanky.”  You’ve been warned!
